Power to the People!
The New York Times reported earlier this month that Google will be introducing a home power-usage tracking program that they are calling the PowerMeter. They are going to combine their software with new “Smart-Grid” meters in order to make detailed power-consumption information available to homeowners in real-time.
This article got me thinking … here at Progressive Technology, we have been using similar methods to proactively monitor our clients’ networks for years. We identify key areas that can be upgraded or optimized in order to make necessary information available where, when and however it is needed. Our goal is to make your business’ technology run as smoothly and efficiently as possible, saving you time and money. Chances are, we can find and replace that old toaster before it short-circuits and causes a fire.

Now Google believes armed with their monitoring system, users could theoretically streamline their daily usage in order to be as efficient as possible. They can also investigate suspicious spikes, such as a stuck button on a toaster. Advance testers have reported saving money in ways that consumers are already aware of. But replacing all of the standard bulbs in your home with CFLs might seem like an unrewarding chore, until you can logon and immediately see a 13% drop in the average height of your graph.
