The Project Triangle

At the start of a project (the type of project does not matter) you are asked to select two of the three above options. Based on your selection, you receive the following response from your service provider:

You Select: Good and Fast
Response: “This is an excellent selection. We will meet and exceed your expectations. We will work diligently to meet your deadline. Although this probably goes without saying, you understand that by making this selection the final cost of the project will be expensive.”

You Select: Good and Cheap
Response: “This is an excellent selection. We will meet and exceed your expectations. We also understand the limited budget. Although this probably goes without saying, you understand that by making this selection we may have to make other projects a higher priority.

You Select: Fast and Cheap
Response: “This is an excellent selection. We will work diligently to meet your deadline. We also understand the limited budget. Although this probably goes without saying, you understand that by making this selection we will not be able to follow our standard process and procedures used to deliver the best results.”

Some of you may know this as The Project Triangle.

  • Good + Fast = Expensive
  • Good + Cheap = Slow
  • Fast + Cheap = Inferior Product

The idea behind The Project Triangle is that all three options are not considered to be practical in the real world.

So, what does The Project Triangle have to do with your business, technology or Progressive?

On a daily basis, all businesses are faced with the three aspects of the triangle – timelines, quality and budgets. We know that this is especially true for your technology projects, whether it is upgrading your network or redesigning your website. At Progressive, our approach is not to make you select two, but to help you find a balance of all three. We also understand that removing “good” from the equation is not an option, and we never have or will compromise the quality of our work for the other two.

If you are considering a new IT project, we would welcome the opportunity to meet and show you how we balance timelines, quality and budgets to deliver IT solutions that will improve your business. Please call us at 682-4990 or Email Us.
