pizzaturnaround.com

By now, everyone knows that Domino’s Pizza has changed its core recipe. For a company that has been in business 50 years, it is a bold move. But maybe even a bolder move was the launch of their new website: www.pizzaturnaround.com.

Launching a website tied to a new marketing initiative is not unique, and in fact has become the norm. Companies have quickly realized that applying their advertising dollars toward new websites that parallel their marketing efforts and are focused on a single theme deliver a greater return than just including the message within their main site.

The uniqueness of the Domino’s website is the fact that the majority of the content is supplied by its customers in the form of comments and tweets. Domino’s has provided their customers an open forum where they can agree or disagree that the new recipe delivers. Although the majority of the tweets appear to be in favor of the new recipe, the comments are definitely a mixed bag of positive and negative feedback.

So will it work?

Although I survived on Domino’s during college, I cannot tell you the last time I actually had one. When I order pizza, I tend to order from one of our local family-owned restaurants. So I doubt either their commercials or website will get me to place an order. That being said, Domino’s approach —- I guess you can call it the “open and honest” campaign —- has given me new respect for the company.

It is to early to tell whether this new recipe will be a success or become the next “New” Coke. But I think we can all appreciate and applaud the effort.
