Don't Be Afraid of Change
You may have noticed that at the beginning of this month, Google made a subtle but noticeable change to their homepage and search results pages – they increased the size of their search box and the font inside it.
As Marissa Mayer, Vice President, Search Products & User Experience, posted on the official Google Blog:
- “It symbolizes our focus on search and it makes our clean, minimalist homepage even easier and more fun to use. The new, larger Google box features larger text when you type so that you can see your query more clearly. It also uses a larger text size for the suggestions below the search box, making it easier to select one of the possible refinements,”
Now why is this a BIG change?
Google has been very hesitant in the past to alter anything on its trademark homepage. Google understands that its home page is to Google as Coke’s Original Formula is to Coke. And we all know what happened when Coke tried to change the formula.
For many, change is upsetting. And change within a business environment can open you up to criticism. But I believe that to be successful and competitive in business, it is important not to be afraid of change but to embrace it and look at ways change can benefit you and your customers.
At Progressive, we continually review our business practices – looking for ways change can improve the service and support we provide. This past year, we have made numerous changes including offering online bill pay, expanding our monitoring services and introducing an online back up solution. In the future, we will continue to look for opportunity to make changes, but we will never change the level of service and support that you have come to expect from us.
